About Us
We are committed to reaching our community with the gospel of Jesus Christ as revealed through the Bible.
Our Mission
Our Mission
Our church family loves the word of God – the Bible. For this reason one of our core convictions is to prayerfully preach and teach the Bible at every opportunity. This is something that happens across all our ministries and, in particular, each Sunday as we open God’s word and hear the gospel of Jesus faithfully preached.
It is our delight and joy to not only preach and teach this gospel, but also live it. Although we are far from perfect, God gifted us with Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example for us to follow. We seek to show Jesus through fellowship, practical care, hospitality, nurturing, and encouragement. On a firm foundation of prayer, teaching, and fellowship, we will share the love of God to a needy world.
Our Values & Beliefs
Our Values & Beliefs
We are passionate about the Good News
That, in love, God the Father took the initiative in sending Jesus to save us from the consequences of our sins. If talk of being ‘saved’ is unfamiliar to you, we invite you to read ‘Two Ways to Live‘, which explains how to become a Christian.
First and foremost, we are followers of Jesus
It is through Jesus that we come to know God; it is through His death that we find forgiveness; it is through His resurrection that God assures us that we will live again. Jesus is our King and we are members of His kingdom.
We are also people of the Holy Spirit
Whom God gives to His church and to every believer in Jesus. We depend on Him for so much – spiritual awakening, spiritual understanding, spiritual transformation, spiritual gifts, and spiritual fruit are all the work of the Spirit.
We are a people who seek to impact our neighbourhood
God calls us to be a church in the world, for the world, and we believe this must be a priority in our local area. The Mackay Charge has two preaching places: “Scots” North Mackay and Sarina Presbyterian Church. We hold fast to the truth that the gospel is all we need for faith and life. As a Presbyterian Church of QLD, we have a subordinate document that outlines the basis of our theology and doctrine, called the Westminster Confession of Faith.
We are people of the Word
Everything we believe about God, His plan for the world, His work of salvation, His will for our lives… everything must be directed, conditioned, and shaped by the Bible. We believe it to be reliable, without error, and the main way in which God has revealed Himself to us so that we might know Him.
Our History
Our History
The Presbyterian Church in Mackay has existed for over 120 years.
With the formation of the Uniting Church of Australia in 1977, those who chose to remain as Presbyterians received the land and the building on Cnr Evans Avenue and Harvey Street, Mackay. Over the years, the property was renovated to meet the needs of the Mackay congregation.
In 1986, additional land was purchased on Beach Road, Sarina to serve the growing community. An old school building was relocated to the site in 1987 and refurbished to become the Sarina congregation of the Mackay Presbyterian Church.

Creche
A creche space is available for parents of little ones who may need some space during the service. However, if it’s the noise you’re worried about, we’re not! It’s a blessing to have the next generation with us.
Ephesians 2:4-5
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved.
Meet The Church Family Leadership
Our Minister
Rev. Troy and Angela Wilkins
Troy loves Jesus and is always excited to talk about Him. He enjoys the privilege and challenge of studying God’s word both on his own and with others. His favourite way to do this is through intentional discipleship.
Troy and Angie have four boys: Jack, Levi, Noah, and Seth. The ‘Wilkins 6’ have a massive heart for pastoral care and discipleship and are energised by walking with people through everyday life. You’ll likely find the Wilkins 6 near the water, whether it’s fishing, tubing, swimming, or relaxing at the beach.
Reverend Troy Wilkins
Troy Wilkins started his ministry in Mackay in January 2022, after graduating from Queensland Theological College in Brisbane. Previously, Troy had been serving Jesus across Ipswich and surrounds through different areas of ministry.
Angela Wilkins
Angie has a passion for women’s and family ministries. She loves the opportunity to bless, and be blessed, by sitting down with people over a good cuppa, and sharing about all things life.
Our Elders
Mackay and Sarina Presbyterian Church is part of the Presbyterian Church of Queensland. The word presbyterian comes from an ancient Greek word ‘presbyteros’ which means elder. Our church is led by elders, with Pastor Troy having the role of teaching elder.

Our Committee of Management
Our Committee of Management is responsible for the care and maintenance of our church properties, our administration and financial affairs, and caring for our ministry team and wider church family. The committee is elected each year from – and by – the congregation. These deacons are servant-hearted people who love the church well with their gifts and time.
Our Church Family Ministries
Our church family ministries create opportunities for people of all ages to connect, grow in faith, care for one another, and serve our community. Whether through Next Gen Ministries, fellowship groups, mercy ministries, missions, or prayer, there is a place for everyone to belong and get involved.

Mercy Ministry
Our Mercy Ministry is a new and growing expression of the care God calls His church to show in the world.
This ministry began through a prayerful initiative of our Committee of Management, who sensed the importance of making space for ministry within our church family. As part of this vision, funds were set aside in the 2025 church budget with a simple prayer: that God, in His faithfulness, would raise up men and women willing to step into opportunities to serve others in practical ways.
And God has indeed been faithful.
He has provided not only the financial resources needed, but also the time, gifts, and willingness of people within our church family who have stepped forward to care for others.
One of the first expressions of this ministry has been a Meals Ministry, where members of our church family prepare and provide meals for people who may need a little extra help for a season — whether due to illness, hardship, recovery, or other challenges. These meals are offered not only to those within our church family, but also to people in our wider community when the opportunity arises.
At its heart, this ministry flows from the biblical picture of God’s mercy and benevolence toward His creation. Throughout Scripture we see a God who cares deeply about the physical and practical needs of people. As the body of Christ, the church is called to reflect that same compassion.
In serving others in these ways, we simply seek to become the hands and feet of Christ, expressing His love through acts of practical care and generosity.
Our prayer is that through this ministry, many people would experience both the kindness of God and the love of His people, as we seek to serve faithfully in Jesus’ name.

Growth Groups
Wing’s: Woman in God’s Service
The women of Mackay and Sarina Presbyterian gather together through WINGS (Women IN God’s Service) – a fellowship made up of the women of our church family who desire to grow together as sisters in Christ.
Throughout the year WINGS hosts a variety of gatherings designed to help women encourage each other, build friendships, and grow in their faith in the Lord Jesus. These gatherings take different shapes. Sometimes it’s coming together around good teaching from God’s Word, such as when we host a local hub for the EQUIP Women’s Conference each year. At other times it’s simply enjoying a social gathering where women can relax, share life together, and strengthen the bonds of fellowship.
WINGS is also a welcoming space where women are encouraged to bring friends, family members, and the women in their lives, creating opportunities for others to experience Christian community and hear the hope of the gospel.
At its heart, this fellowship is about women encouraging and caring for each other as they grow together in Jesus. It is a place where women seek to live out the calling of God’s Word — growing into the kind of wisdom, strength, generosity, and faith described in Proverbs 31, as daughters of a gracious and loving King.
Alongside fellowship and teaching, the women of WINGS share a heart for evangelism, hospitality, and caring for those within our church family and beyond, seeking to serve faithfully as women made in God’s image.
Through these rhythms of gathering, learning, and serving, our prayer is that the women of MSPC would continue to encourage each other and shine the grace of Christ into the lives of others.

Men’s Ministry
At Mackay and Sarina Presbyterian we believe that God calls men to grow together in faith, character, and responsibility as followers of Jesus.
Our men’s ministry is built around simple but meaningful rhythms of gathering around God’s Word, sharing life together, and strengthening each other as men shaped by the gospel.
Each term we host a Men’s Breakfast, where men from across our church family gather around a hearty breakfast, open the Scriptures together, and enjoy fellowship as we serve and encourage each other in Christ. These breakfasts are also a great opportunity to invite the men in our lives—whether young or mature in years—including our sons, to come along and spend time with the men of our church family. All men are welcome.
We also look forward each year to attending the Central Queensland Men’s Conference (CQMC) in Rockhampton, where men from across the region gather for faithful teaching from God’s Word, encouragement, and the joy of standing shoulder to shoulder with other men seeking to follow Jesus.
But our vision for men’s ministry goes deeper than events.
We long to see men growing in their love for the Lord Jesus and for each other, encouraging and discipling each other as we learn from God’s Word what it means to live as the men He has called us to be.
This reflects our theological conviction that God, in His good design, calls men to take responsibility for the gifts, relationships, and leadership entrusted to them as those made in His image.
As men grow in Christ, they strengthen their families, their church, and their community. Our hope is that together we would become men shaped by the gospel—humble, faithful, courageous, and devoted to the Lord Jesus.

Prayer Ministry
Prayer sits at the very heart of our life together as a church family.
We believe that prayer is one of the great gifts God has given His people… the way we speak with our Father, bring our needs before Him, and place our lives into His loving hands. In prayer we acknowledge that we are dependent on God for everything. We seek His forgiveness & wisdom, ask for His help, thank Him for His grace, and trust Him to lead and grow us in every way according to His good purposes.
Because of this, prayer is woven into the normal rhythms of life at Mackay and Sarina Presbyterian.
We pray together before and during our gatherings, bringing our praise, confession, our thanks and needs, and the needs of others before the Lord God almighty. Prayer reminds us that everything we do as a church flows from our dependence on God and our trust in the work of the Lord Jesus.
Each week we also share a Church Family Prayer List with those who would like to receive it. This allows members of our church family to stay informed about prayer needs and to faithfully lift up each other, our ministries, and our community before the Lord.
Alongside this, we have prayer groups in both Mackay and Sarina who help ensure that urgent prayer needs can be shared quickly with trusted prayer warriors within our church family. These faithful servants quietly uphold many of the needs of our church and community before God.
At its heart, our prayer ministry reflects a simple conviction: we are a people who depend on the Lord. We believe God hears the prayers of His people and delights to work through them. As we pray for each other, for our church, and for our community, we entrust everything to the One who is sovereign, good, and faithful.
Our prayer is that together we would continue to grow as a church family that seeks the Lord first, trusts Him deeply, and brings everything before Him in prayer.
If you’d like to request prayer or would like to know more, please contact us at prayer@mackaypc.org.au
